GORDON HALLORAN ICE SCULPTURE INSTALLATION

MIA has invited Gordon Halloran to create a feature installation at the January 2011 event. Artist Gordon Halloran has created a public art phenomenon with a new art-form called Paintings Below Zero, dazzling paintings in ice. Enormous in scale, yet intricate in detail, the work features stunning patterns created by pigments within the crystal structure of the ice.
Artistically, Halloran’s work explores the ephemeral nature of existence - the difference of one degree and the illusion of physical security and permanence. The vivid colors in his work are a study on the brief and fragile brilliance of existence.
The work is a magnet for press and hundreds of thousands of people come to see and experience this unique public art. His work often generates discussion around climate change.
